Notice 1 (6 January 2000) - 'Old Conways' Y2000 Dinner in New ZealandHMS Conway - Back to top

From: Michael Evans

Following on from the very successful Conway Dinner held in Sydney last year, New Zealand 'Old Conways' are preparing for a Y2000 Dinner in New Zealand.

The planned date for this event is Saturday/Sunday, 14/15th October 2000. The venue will be Auckland and a range of informal activities are being developed around the official dinner planned for the Saturday evening. These are great opportunities to catch up with old friends and perhaps renew acquaintances and exchange your life stories! To assist the working group with preplanning for this exciting event we ask if you would please complete the attached questionnaire. We will communicate with you again in February once we have received all replies.

Notice 4 (8 April 2000) - Trying to trace George William Eyles-OwenHMS Conway - Back to top

From: GarethEyles-Owen

I am trying to trace my grandfather George William Eyles-Owen who was sent on the Indefatigable with his brother when they where both orphaned. I think he came from Glamorgan. The timing would have been early 1890's.

Notice 6 (26 November 2000) - Abandon ShipHMS Conway - Back to top

From: Geoffrey Haskins

Geoffrey Haskins (1940-43) is going to attempt to put together a commemorative booklet on the great event of March 1941, hopefully in time for our own celebrations. The period he thinks would be suitable is from the time the ship was run down by a "Not Under Command" whale factory ship until the premature end of the Easter term 1941 with the SS "Tacoma City" sitting on the bottom of the river, including our spell in Vittoria dock.

Anyone who has something to contribute: a personal tale, photographs, cartoons (including that classic one: "Nix-oh Spooky"), or any other memorabilia - all would be carefully considered and incorporated.
