Notice 2 (7 July 1998) - Titanic Film

HMS Conway - Back to top

From: Robert Rae robrae@interworx.com.au

For those Titanic buffs there is a copy of the German Nazi film 'Titanic' available on video from International Historic Films in Chicago,Ill. you can find them and their catalogue on the net at :- www.IHFfilm.com . The history of the film itself is interesting. It was produced in 1943 and Goebbels thought the scenes of mass panic were not appropriate for Germans then experiencing British bombing, so it was not shown in Germany, but he allowed foreign release and the film premiered in Paris in 1943. In 1950 the Allied powers forbade its showing in West Germany because of its anti-British propoganda. Scenes from the film are said to have been used uncredited in the 1958 British film ' A Night to Remember". In the German film the first officer, who is said to be German (!) tries to forestall the disaster, but it is the "greed of the British shipowner that was responsible for what happened"
